Dealing With Feelings
Our feelings and emotions drive us to overeat. Rather than process our feelings we often use food as our drug of choice.
When we are locked into a ‘diet’ we can suppress or sideline feelings and emotions for a short period of time. But feelings are much more powerful than logic and will direct behaviour often to rebel against any perceived restrictions.
We have grown up with food being a reward as well as a neutraliser to anger, anxiety, loneliness, boredom and as a recreational past time.
We can learn strategies to process emotions and we can learn to change our habitual unhelpful associations to food.
